When my mom passed away, a very dear friend of mine sent me a beautiful floral arrangement in a unique vase that had my mom’s picture in it. The picture is waterproof, so even while the vase is filled with water, the picture is protected. The flower she chose was sunflowers, knowing that 1. sunflowers have always been my favorite flower and 2. my mom also loved sunflowers and planted them in her garden. One summer, when I was 15 years old, my mom and I redecorated my room in sunflowers. We painted the walls with a sunflower stencil along the top and incorporated sunflowers in the décor. Sunflowers will always remind me of my mom and this sweet friend knew that. This special, meaningful gift brought tears to my eyes.
As with all real flowers, my sunflowers eventually died. I told myself that I was going to buy fake flowers as a replacement, but the months went by and I never seemed to remember to pick them out when I found myself in a craft store. That’s when I stumbled onto Silk Plants Direct, a website that sells artificial trees and plants. They sell in bulk at a wholesale price.
I knew right away that I wanted sunflowers, but I wasn’t certain how to make use of the quantity of flowers they’d be sending (which was 12 bouquets!) But, true crafter over here, I knew I could figure out something. I am throwing a baby shower for my daughter next month and I found a cute idea for a floral arrangement that fit our theme (which is a baby circus theme).
Here’s what I came up with!
I was really happy with how both of my arrangements turned out, and pleased with the quality of the silk flowers. The don’t look cheap and the best part of all is that they won’t die! 🙂
I pulled in a couple of other colors for my baby shower arrangement (white and red, to go with our theme). I picked a few bunches up at the Dollar Tree and you can totally see the difference between the quality of the flowers. It’s almost embarrassing to put them together, but the sunflowers steal the show, so hopefully nobody will notice how cheap the other ones look.
In June, I am planning a formal gala for the non-profit that I operate, The DEANA Foundation, and I will most likely be going back to order flowers for this event. You just can’t beat the quality that you get for the price!
