Description
For my aspiring quilters out there: join me for this fun, beginning quilter’s sewing class! This is different than the other beginning quilting class I have offered because this one teaches you free motion quilting!! Free motion quilting gives you the ability to move your fabric around freely, creating any designs you like! Students will also be learning how to complete a binding around the edges (which is the same method used on larger quilts).
I’ve come up with 2 different “spring time” designs and will have pattern pieces prepared for each, but if students have their own design that they want to make, they are welcome to do that (don’t make it too complex!!). If they want to create their own design, however, they need to come to class with their design pattern pieces already cut out in order to finish on time. The mug rug rectangle is 6″ x 9″, so the design should fit within a 5″ x 8″ frame (accounting for seam allowance). I will provide all of the fabric for this project and I have TONS of fabric scraps that students can choose from to complete these mug rug designs.
You will need a free motion quilting foot for this project! You cannot do free motion quilting without this presser foot. You can purchase it at a fabric store, or from the link below. Please make sure this one is right for your machine (this particular one fits most machine brands).
