Sewing With Knits

Description

This class is a 2 week class introducing sewing with knit fabrics (yes, it is different than sewing on woven fabrics!!) This is an intermediate level class which means that students should have taken several workshop/beginner level classes and have a solid foundation on sewing before taking.

In this class, students will learn how to sew knit fabrics by constructing a shirt. Students will learn about pattern layout and cut out their own patterns.

I have a few different patterns that will be available for use, but if you would like to purchase your own I use a company called Ellie and Mac that has a great variety of both kids and adults patterns, and they are priced fairly cheap! You can choose your own pattern here if you’d like. I have also included fabric in my cost, but if you would like to buy your own knit fabric, then we can deduct $7 from the price.

I do highly recommend purchasing sewing clips when using knit fabrics. Regular sewing pins can leave holes in the fabric if you’re not careful, so I always use clips when I sew with knits. Students should also get a jersey or ballpoint needle for their machine.
