Description
Sewing 3 & Sewing 4 are an extension of learning from Sewing 1 & Sewing 2 and focuses on clothing construction. Sewing 4 is a 6 week course (following Sewing 3) and will meet once a week. Students MUST have taken Sewing 1, 2 & 3 as a prerequisite (or have equivalent experience; ask me if you have questions about this).
In this class, students will be able to select custom clothing projects from an assortment of patterns that I will provide. Since this follows Sewing 3, we will already have an idea of what students would like to make over these 6 weeks. I am adding an option to Sewing 4 for students to be able to bring in their own patterns that they select. However, patterns DO need to be pre-approved by me. Buying a pattern from a reputable pattern company is key! Pattern companies I suggest:
- From Joann’s (or another fabric store): Simplicity, New Look, McCalls, Butterick
- Online Pattern Companies I’ve used and trust: *Ellie and Mac, Made For Mermaids, Love Notions, Patterns for Pirates
*Ellie and Mac is my favorite. They have easy patterns, clear instructions and great sales (don’t forget to check out their free section!)
Students may either purchase fabric from me (some charters allow funds to be used for this), or they can go and choose fabric on their own. Any woven will work, but I would recommend courdory or denim fabric. If you select another type of fabric, keep in mind the weight and drape of the fabric. You don’t want anything too sheer/lightweight. Please come with your fabric, prewashed, the first day of class.
