Description
For those who have completed my Sewing 1 Course, this Sewing 2 Course is for you!
I used to break this class up into 2 separate classes: aprons and t-shirts. I’ve decided to combine these projects into a six-week sewing course because the skills learned on both of these projects are essential to sewing!
Our first project will be an apron with a matching oven mitt. Skills learned on this project include: ruffles/gathers, pockets and lining.
Our second project will be t-shirts. Students will be learning how to sew on knit fabrics (yes, it’s different than sewing on wovens!!) The pattern I have selected for students comes from Ellie and Mac Pattern Company and is the “Going Home Sweater” pattern. I have patterns available for students to use, but if you would rather purchase your own pattern to keep, you can do that from their website (click here). I like Ellie and Mac patterns because they are very easy for beginnings to learn on! On a side note, they have a free pattern section as well as weekly pattern sales, so if you want to start collecting patterns and sewing your own wardrobe, I encourage you to check them out!!
At this level, it is good for students to learn how to select their own fabric and choose something they like, so students will need to provide their own fabric for these projects. However, if getting out and shopping is difficult (or if you want to use charter funds on fabric), students can select fabric from me for an additional fee. Please let me know at the time of registration.
Materials Needed For Apron:
- Main Fabric & Lining (we’ll use the same fabric for both): 1 1/2 yards
- Ruffle & Waist Ties: 2/3 yard
- Pocket & Neck Straps: 1/2 yard
- Matching thread
Materials Needed for Raglan T-Shirt:
- 1 1/2 yard of main fabric

******Remember to pre-wash all fabrics before class******
For sewing with knits, students will also need a jersey/ball point needle. You can purchase that at Wal-mart, Joann Fabrics, or on the link provided here.
