Fashion Design Class Patterns

*This post is primarily for my fashion design students

As some of my regular readers may know, I teach sewing classes 🙂

One of the classes I’ve added this semester is a fashion design course. This is an advanced class, for students who have taken my Sewing 1 & 2 courses. Throughout the course of 12 weeks, students are able to select clothing and accessories that they want to learn to make. Students can choose to bring their own patterns in to work on, or they can choose from the assortment of patterns that I have in my stash. Although this post is primarily to share information with my students, there are some really great patterns that I’m about to share that are great for anyone just starting out with clothing construction; and even for those who are more experienced sewists 😉

A note for my students/parents:

Below is a compilation of patterns that I have in my file that students are welcome to use in our Fashion Design class. I’ve organized them by section: patterns for children, patterns for teens/adults, and patterns that are available in both child and adult sizes. Additionally, students can search for patterns on their own and submit them for approval. If you would like to select your own pattern, please choose from a reputable pattern company. That would include patterns that you can buy at Joann’s (or other fabric stores) or online companies. Ellie and Mac is my favorite online pattern company because the patterns are so simple and easy to work with. They also have a FREE pattern section as well as a weekly $2 pattern sale (different patterns go on sale each week). This is how I’ve stocked up on so many patterns!! Here are some websites for my favorite online pattern companies that you are welcome to choose from:

You will notice in the patterns I’ve listed, that I’ve listed different variations/options for each pattern, and I also listed the pattern company for your reference.

E&M=Ellie and Mac

M4M= Made For Mermaids

LN= Love Notions

LLK= Little Lizard King

Self Drafted means that it is a pattern I drafted myself.

I have listed pictures of clothing that I’ve made from [most of] these patterns, but usually each pattern includes several varations (for example, hem length options, sleeve options, neckline options, etc). To see more views of each patterns, please visit the website for each pattern. You can simply type the pattern name in the search bar and it’ll pop up for you.

*I will update this post periodically with more patterns ideas as they come!
