A few weeks ago my daughter came to town (from Arizona) for a last minute weekend getaway. Her husband was out of town for a few days and she needed some adult interaction; it’s nice having her just a 5 hour drive away!
We decided to do something we’ve been wanting to do for a long time…head out to LA to the fashion district!! Thank you to the hubs and my kids for watching little Ollie, my grandson; we were able to have a kid free day in LA and it was SO MUCH FUN! If you haven’t ever been but you like fabric and like to sew, then go! There are sooo many good deals out there! I wanted to highlight a few of them for you here.
First of all, if you aren’t sure where you are going, you can always google, but I’ll save you the trouble and tell you: exit on San Pedro St and turn right (well…that’s coming from my direction which is east, so I think that means head North on San Pedro St….you’ll see the signs pointing you in the right direction).
Go down about a mile and turn left on 9th St. Within a couple of blocks you will start to see all the fabric shops. There are plenty of lots to park in. We ended up turning (right) on Wall St. and on the left hand side there is a parking structure that heads up to a rooftop. That’s usually where I park when I go. It’s a good location for lots of nearby shops and it’s only $4 to park. And Wall Fabric is right below, which is on my list of places to shop!
I made a video highlighting some of my favorite shops and what kind of selections they have. But I figure it doesn’t hurt to post a few pics here as well. 🙂 So here are a few of our day in LA!
I LOVED looking at all the fabrics in Blue Moon!! So many gorgeous, special occasion fabrics to look through!
Can you believe that you can find satin fabric for $1.10?? Holy moly! Even if you just use it for practice or playing around with draping or something, what a great find!
And this shop, where everything is only $1.99 a yard! They have everything from velvet to satin to lace to crepe…Maurina bought some fabric here for a dress she wants to make.
Seeing so many shops with dresses like these inspires me!! I wish I could just create all day, everyday! With an endless budget, of course.
You will find so many great deals like this, and most places will offer you a lower price if you start to walk away. Lol.
I love this shop for cotton and fleece character prints. They have more than I’ve ever seen!! Everything from Disney to Nickelodeon to Sports Teams and nursery prints…the entire store is filled with stacks and stacks of character fabrics.
Get the full tour and addresses on my video!
Do you have a favorite fabric shop in LA that I didn’t mention? If so, I wanna hear about it!!
